Thread count just isn’t a good measure of quality as a standalone figure, apart from exposing sellers who are (probably) trying to rip you off. Stay within the 200- to 300-range and you’ll be good,” said Jimmy McDonald, cofounder of Authenticity50.Įvery sheet maker we spoke with echoed a similar sentiment. A higher thread count doesn’t equate to better quality. If you have sensitive skin, I would definitely recommend going with a percale or linen option, which has a more breathable construction.“Pumped-up numbers with inferior, multi-ply yarn, the numbers are often lies to begin with. I’m prone to the occasional T-zone breakout, but I don’t have particularly bad skin, and these sheets caused a massive breakout on the sides of my face. Our Take: While I loved climbing into bed and feeling the silky-smooth finish of this set, I was really disappointed with the effect these pillowcases had on my skin. However, as we mentioned above, silk and sateen materials are supposed to be great for your hair and skin, but there were several mixed reviews about this set’s breathability. The set includes one flat sheet, one fitted sheet and two pillowcases and features a slightly luminous finish for a truly luxurious feel.

Nintendo teased that the handheld would first be released in Japan in August 2000, with the North American and European launch dates slated for the end of the same year. On September 1, 1999, Nintendo officially announced the Game Boy Advance, revealing details about the system's specifications including online connectivity through a cellular device and an improved model of the Game Boy Camera. An improved version of the GBC with wireless online connectivity was codenamed the Advanced Game Boy (AGB), and a brand-new 32-bit system was not set for release until the following year. News of a successor to the Game Boy Color (GBC) first emerged at the Nintendo Space World trade show in late August 1999, where it was reported that two new handheld systems were in development. It was designed by the French designer Gwénaël Nicolas and his Tokyo-based design studio Curiosity Inc. Its successor, the Nintendo DS, was released in November 2004 and is backward compatible with Game Boy Advance software.Ĭontrary to the Game Boy and Game Boy color, which have the "portrait" form factor (designed by Gunpei Yokoi), the Game Boy Advance was designed in a "landscape" form factor, putting the buttons to the sides of the device instead of below the screen. The later songs, from Remember, are better crafted and more sophisticated, as well as encompassing some of Holly's best songs, including "Learning the Game" and "Peggy Sue Got Married," but those are all available elsewhere, and as the context of their inclusion on Remembering was mere happenstance, they're nothing more than handy bonus tracks here - rather more impressive among those later cuts is "Real Wild Child," a frantically paced rockabilly number credited to Ivan and sung by Crickets drummer Jerry Allison, featuring Holly on guitar and backing vocals. Those 11 sides, which never sounded better than they do here, make this CD a must-own release for anyone with more than the most casual interest in Holly's work or in early rock & roll if the alternate take of "Rock Around With Ollie Vee" were here, the CD would be perfect as a document of its subject and period. Those tracks, though a fair distance from the music that made Holly famous, are good, solid, occasionally inspired rock & roll, with a decided rockabilly and country flavor they're as instructive about how the producers at the major labels - in this case, Owen Bradley and his assistants at Decca's Nashville studio - and young artists like Holly, without a lot of studio time under his belt, were finding their way around rock & roll recording. Curiously, it is the first 11 songs here, from That'll Be the Day - which is usually dismissed by critics as not sufficiently representative of Holly's real sound - that make this CD an important release, very close to essential listening. That'll Be the Day, released in April of 1958, was Decca Records' first attempt to give a boost to the available Buddy Holly material, assembling 11 of the songs that he'd cut for the label during his four unsuccessful Nashville sessions of 1956 into an LP, issued one month after the Buddy Holly album was issued Remember, released in 1971, was the last posthumous compilation of Holly's work assembled by British MCA, gathering together the last of his officially released singles, B-sides, and more. If there are more acquisitions in 2022 then it’s going to be interesting to see whether or not it results in more exclusive content for the Xbox family of consoles. It might not have anything to do with consoles though with the PC market being so buoyant and with the lucrative nature of games sales in general, so maybe the status quo isn’t about to get a shakeup. In all fairness, Microsoft bought Mojang back in 2014 and there has been no mention of making Minecraft exclusive, so we’re not too sure what the plan it. Arkane Studios, Bethesda, and id Software have all joined the fold in 2021 and the Activision / Blizzard deal looks like it’s about to complete a big year of acquisition, so there’s clearly something going on with all of this. Also, given that motion controls already work on DOOM, you could play the game as. Theres a pretty severe lack of story-based. Controlling the sword and guns with the Wii Remote feels fine enough, but it would be a perfect fit for VR. Microsoft hasn’t been taking it lying down, though, as it’s been throwing money at development houses to bring them into the fold, which will give them a lot of potential edge. DOOM is arguably the best candidate on this list, as theres already a VR version working on other platforms. Taking Borderlands and giving characters motion-controlled shotguns and katanas gives you Red Steel 2 on the Wii, and is definitely one of the more hidden gems on the console. Nintendo has quietly gone about building its own big volume of owners while Sony has royally trounced Xbox in both the current and previous generation of consoles, so there’s a lot riding on things at the moment. The arrival of the video and speculation about a VR headset for the Switch comes as the console war is really hotting up. Ultimate directly, but it could lead to new and different titles or experiences featuring the characters. It obviously wouldn’t work that well with the likes of other great titles like Super Mario Odyssey, Luigi’s Mansion 3 or Super Smash Bros. The thought of getting to play The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart or Splatoon 3 in virtual reality is enough to make our heads pop. With so many games that could work well in a virtual reality setting, it could be a game changer for Nintendo and we’ll be surprised if it isn’t a part of its future at some point no matter how things work out for Pokémon Legends Arceus. If this is the case then a Nintendo Switch headset will be a long way away and in fact could be something that goes on to be a part of the next big console generation.Īlternatively, if it is a sample of something that they’re secretly working on then we might just see a rival to Sony’s PlayStation VR 2 in time for Winter 2022. It’s also possible that this is just Nintendo dipping its toe into the area of VR without going full tilt to see how it lands and whether or not it helps to build the excitement. Whilst a bug has been raised about this probelm and Thomas Perl has tried to provided some assistance to my question about how to see if the variables have been set, I’ve decided to take a different approach and redirect the gpodder downloads folder residing in my Home drive to another folder on a different drive. Whilst the Wiki does suggest making “session-wide changes on Ubuntu Linux”, it does not really explain how to do it and how to test that the change has been applied and gives up in providing proper instructions by pointing distressed users to the Ubuntu community documentation on Persistent Environmental Variables, which isn’t great in itself. If you run a varient of Ubuntu Linux, then as far as version 3 of gPodder goes you are stuffed as this feature does not work due to a software bug. Up until version 3, gPodder allowed you to change the downloads folder location and in the Wiki this is still possible if you run Windows, Linux/ Unix/ OS X and MeeGo. becaue of the formers size, I do not store them in the default download folder location dictated by gPodder but store it on a separate data drive so if my filesystem partitions runs out fo disk space (as that is where my Home directory is located) I will not crash the system! I’ve been there before so I’ve learnt the hard way. Now I suspect I’m not too unusual in downloading a lot of podcasts both video and audio. With my subscriptions back, the next step was to find out where my previously recorded podcasts had gone. ![]() I’m sure we could do better but this was enough for me. This might be unique to me because I was using a non-standard location for my downloads, but I solved this by the brute-force technique of doing one last sync to my player from gpodder 2 and then telling gpodder3 to consider all the subscriptions up to date. ![]() I had an extra problem, because even after this gpodder3 didn’t recognize any of my previously downloaded podcasts (it wanted to pull down 3Gb of new shows!). Skip past the initial dialog offering you default subscrptions and you can import the OPML file you created in the last step. Once you’ve done it you can quit and run gpodder3. Now you can export your subscriptions to an OPML file that gpodder 3 can import (it’s on the subscriptions menu). Unpack the files somewhere (we don’t need to actually install it, just run it once. Here’s what I did: from the gpodder download site I downloaded the last release of version 2 (I used this one). So I was able to recovery my subscriptions. However – it seems gpodder3 keeps it’s configuration in a gPodder directory in your home dir, while gpodder 2 was keeping it’s configuration in. They don’t appear to have supplied any conversion tool nor any warning that your old config wouldn’t be converted (thanks!). Ubuntu 12.10 now ships gpodder 3 which uses a new and incompatible database format. Re: gPodder subscription list gone after upgrade to 12.10 If stuff worked in the previous version, it should remain working in the new version and if it does not then the software should be held back until fixed as with open source there is no commercial pressure to get software out of the door at any cost other than that self imposed by the developers.Īfter a bit of searching on the internet I found an post from gds which is reproduced below: It’s hardly surprising that with these sorts of problems, the year of the Linux desktop remains a distant hope for the community. It a pity that not enough consideration had been given to how to transparently migrate from the SQLLite2 database in gPodder 2.x to the SQLLite3 database in 3.x this could have been avioded. So it was with a degree of horror on upgrading Lubuntu 12.04 to 12.10 that I discovered all of my podcasts (10Gb worth) had apparently disappeared off my hard disk along with the subscription lists. ![]() In Ubuntu 12.04LTS (and variants) gPodder v2.20 was shipped and as with all previous versions of this podcast catcher software, it was relatively free of any major bugs as all good software should be if properly tested. |
